Project Overview:
HB Sound & Light was selected to design and integrate a comprehensive audio system upgrade for Scheels Arena. The project focused on improving coverage, clarity, and system reliability throughout the venue while maintaining compatibility with existing infrastructure.
Scope of Work:
Arena Bowl Audio:
Installed 48 line array cabinets configured into 12 hangs of 4 to deliver consistent, intelligible coverage.
Added 8 subwoofers to enhance low-frequency performance.
Installed 5 over-ice speakers to provide clear audio for hockey events and on-ice operations.
Infrastructure Integration:
Reused and integrated existing loudspeakers located in:
Concourse
Restrooms
Suites
Processing & Amplification:
Installed new BSS Audio processing for system routing, EQ, and venue-wide control.
Integrated Crown DCI amplifiers for efficient, high-power networked amplification.
Wireless & Communications:
Added 4 new wireless microphone systems.
Fully tied the upgraded audio system into the arena’s in-house communication system, improving coordination and operational efficiency.
Project Outcome:
The completed system provided uniform bowl coverage, higher speech intelligibility, and stronger musical impact, improving the experience for sporting events, concerts, and community functions. The combination of new line arrays, integrated existing zones, and updated DSP/amplification delivered a flexible, reliable audio solution built to support Scheels Arena for years to come.
